WHAT IS BIKE FEST OZ!?
Bike Fest Oz! is intended to be an annual trans-Tasman event run around mid June each year, which, as it happens, is the ideal time of the year to be on a motorcycle in Northern NSW/South-East Qld. The area offers excellent weather and conditions at this time of year, providing an escape from southern winters and showcasing the area’s many features in the best possible light. Typically, average temperatures range between 20 to 25C, with moderate days and cool nights moderated by warm oceanic currents and mild winds from the Tasman Sea.
Bike Fest Oz! will attract motorcyclists from across an incredibly diverse range of activities and demographics, including the full gamut of road bikes and riders, from large tourers to small 250cc learner machines. Importantly, we are deliberately using the geographic term “Australasia” as we believe our Kiwi brothers and sisters will embrace the concept and want to participate, possibly on their own bikes. But we don’t want to restrict our audience and participants to just road riders. So, we aim to include attractions specifically aimed at dirt bike enthusiasts, classic motorcycle fans and even racers, with demonstrations of incredible 800 horsepower fire-breathing, nitromethane-burning Top Fuel drag bikes to agile and compact trials bikes and motocross and enduro machines. And, of course, no motorcycle celebration would be complete without a compulsory motorcycle stunt spectacular! In short, no matter what your two-wheeled passion happens to be, we want to offer literally something for everyone on two wheels at Bike Fest Oz!.
Purely coincidentally for 2023, it turns out the inaugural Bike Fest Oz! will coincide with the 120th birthday party of the legendary Harley-Davidson marque, which has a huge party of its own planned in its hometown of Milwaukee, USA in July next year. Organisers of Bike Fest Oz! plan to work very closely with Harley-Davidson, both in the US and Australia, to ensure participants and visitors to our inaugural event can join in the celebrations with a uniquely Australian-styled celebration of H-D’s significant milestone. But Bike Fest Oz! organisers are keen to stress that while the first festival will have a distinctly Harley flavour, it will still have plenty of other attractions and features to entertain and attract enthusiasts of all brands and bikes.
“While we hope to be working closely with Harley-Davidson to align our celebrations with the official US party, Bike Fest Oz! is, and has always been, aimed at attracting all riders, no matter what their brand, country of origin or type of bike. Given the religious fervor that many enthusiasts have for their bikes, we like to say Bike Fest Oz! will be “multi-denominational”. We embrace and welcome all riders, from scooter owners to large tourers and everything in between to what we intend to be a fantastic family-friendly, community-focused celebration of all things two-wheeled,” said Bike Fest Oz! promotor, Chris Beattie.
